It concerns the relationship between technique, aesthetics and politics within photography and addresses the specific ways of seeing that pertain to the Lebanese&nbsp;space; which embodies both impossibility (of projecting&nbsp;a future) and imminence (of the past wars&nbsp;to become fully present again). It proposes work which has been produced entirely in the dark and reflects on darkness as a distinct perception and a generative space. This project questions where contemporary architecture stands in relation to the concepts of the smooth and the striated in the context of post-war Beirut. It proposes a way of building that fosters an ongoing dialogue between architect and site, embracing the inherent qualities of a site to create spaces that are unique to their context. *In Milles Plateaus, Deleuze and Guattari distinguish between smooth and striated spaces. The smooth is the territory of the nomad (open, fluid). thick cornice of greenery made of branches&nbsp;and leaves that offer an isolated and solitary&nbsp;“tree house” above the city. Despite the fact that in&nbsp;the dynamics of the place, the plaza represents a&nbsp;space where traffic is suspended, noise dominates&nbsp;and cancels the beneficial effects of a break. The&nbsp;ramp cutting over the plaza leads visitors to pause&nbsp;momentarily and think about a new space, a kind&nbsp;of nest made of leaves that deaden sounds and&nbsp;allow the wind to blow through. It is a buffer zone&nbsp;of urban decompression where we can lie down&nbsp;and erase the outside.
